New Orleans begins to glow

Like a badly healed wound
The city begins to glow
With the fires of an insurrection

Prolapsed rose-colored grapes
Staining white enamel sinks
Overflowing with astringent fluids

An unshorn radiant garden
Just within the electrified fence
Proudhon's torso covered with droppings
~~~ ~~~ ~~~
--Samuel Appelbaum, poem 52 from the book Chtcheglov, 1998.
