The setting is in present day Chinese coal mines. The theme is not really about labor rights or dangerous working conditions however. It is about the nitty-gritty grimness of working life in China, and the callously selfish corruption that emanates from such conditions.
Blind Shaft as a film is one of the best released this past year.
